Around 200 swimmers brave the cold waters at Whiffin Spit for the Annual Polar Bear Swim presented by the Otter Point Volunteer Firefighters Association. Registration at 11:30am, swim at noon. Hot chocolate served afterwards.

Although there is no guarantee, many household items are repairable — including small electric appliances, fabrics, bikes and toys. Presented by Zero Waste Sooke, the Repair Cafe is an opportunity to learn new skills and build community.

Presented by Sooke Lions Club, the annual Hard Times Dance returns with live music; a meal of weiners, beans and a bun; and a great way to blow off some post Christmas blues! Casual dress code or hard times costume.

The Sooke region encompasses the District of Sooke and East Sooke, two communities joined around the sheltered Sooke Harbour and Basin, as well as the outlaying areas of Otter Point and Shirley further west.
