Sooke Potholes on the Sooke River:
A favorite recreational opportunity on Vancouver Island

Swimming at the Sooke Potholes Park in the summer is a delight!

Hiking in the fall and watching the salmon run is a fascinating experience.

.This unique series of geological formations commonly known as potholes.

The "pot holes" are scrubbed out of the bedrock by the action of boulders on the river bed.

They were formed 14,000 years ago, during the retreat of the last ice age which covered most of Vancouver Island as well as other areas of North America.
