The Sooke Fire Department, with a staff of 52, are responsible for answering fire and medically-related calls in a 64 square kilometer range, which is a mix of residential, business, and industrial properties as well as acres of forested land.

The department also offers public education and fire prevention initiatives. Taking an active role in the community, volunteers continue to educate local residents on the dangers of fire and other hazards, with the aim of eliminating preventable accidents.

The Sooke RCMP Detachment serves a very large area, extending as far as Port Renfrew (82 kilometres west of Sooke). Our detachment has a Staff Sergeant, Corporals, Constables and Public Service employees. We also have Auxiliary Constables and a part time Victim Services worker. We utilize bike patrols on a part-time basis. We have several volunteers who work in Victim Services and citizen crime watch patrol.

Established 1977, Sooke Region Museum highlights both First Nations and colonial settlers' stories of the Sooke Region through a variety of indoor and outdoor exhibits. The region's official Visitor Centre was added in 1981, serving thousands of tourists each year since.
