Sooke, incorporated on December 7, 1999, is the southern-most
municipality in the province of British Columbia, located in
a magnificent setting of forested lands with a large protected
harbour and basin connected to the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Located at the southern tip of Vancouver Island is the Capital
Regional District (CRD). This regional government serves three
electoral areas and thirteen municipal governments including
the City of Victoria, capital of British Columbia.
All meetings of the Regional Board are open to the public and
residents are encouraged to attend. The meetings take place
on the second and fourth Wednesdays of most months in the CRD
offices at 524 Yates Street.

Fire Department

The Sooke Fire Department, with a staff of 52, are responsible
for answering fire and medically-related calls in a 64 square
kilometer range, which is a mix of residential, business, and
industrial properties as well as acres of forested land.
The department also offers public education and fire prevention
initiatives. Taking an active role in the community, volunteers
continue to educate local residents on the dangers of fire and
other hazards, with the aim of eliminating preventable accidents.

Sooke RCMP Detachment

The Sooke RCMP Detachment serves a very large area, extending
as far as Port Renfrew (82 kilometres west of Sooke). Our detachment
has a Staff Sergeant, Corporals, Constables and Public Service
employees. We also have Auxiliary Constables and a part time
Victim Services worker. We utilize bike patrols on a part-time
basis. We have several volunteers who work in Victim Services
and citizen crime watch patrol.
